Vermont's capital city of Montpelier is going to be celebrating the anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Signed into law on July 26, 1990, the ADA was the world's first comprehensive civil rights law for people with disabilities.
Montpelier has an active ADA Committee that is working to ensure that the city complies with all aspects of the law.
As part of that continuing compliance, this summer the Department of Public Works is assessing the city's sidewalks to keep them in top shape and move forward with a rebuilding schedule.
In the Fall, the city is expected to release a draft ADA transition plan that will outline the city's priorities as it works to maintain ADA compliance.
