Vermont environmental officials have finalized a new plan for improvement and protection of the White River and its branches.
The plan was drafted by the Agency of Natural Resources with the help of two nonprofit groups, the White River Partnership and the Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Commission.
The river’s branches rise in the Green Mountains and the flows into the Connecticut River at White River Junction.
The plan calls for cost sharing with farmers to help them reduce runoff, mapping municipal storm water systems, detecting illegal discharges of pollutants in village centers, and working to prevent erosion in areas where that's a problem.
