Roads in Central Vermont are the latest to be closed as heavy downpours continue to plague the region.
Late Thursday afternoon state police reported the following roads were closed:
- Stowe: Smugglers Notch Route 108 on both sides.
- Waterbury: RT 100 by TruValue toward Stowe .
- Bolton: Stage Road and Notch Road.
- Jericho: Packard Road, Plains Road by Browns Trace Road.
- Richmond: Stage Road, Notch Road.
On Wednesday heavy rains prompted the mobilization of a swiftwater rescue teams from Bethel and Hartford to a Braintree home, where state police say 15 people were trapped on the second floor. Rescue crews decided to wait as water receded and the occupants of the home were not evacuated.
Officials report that Route 12A in Roxbury was also closed due to bridge damage, in addition to Route 100 near the Granville-Warren town line.
The Central Vermont road closings follow earlier flooding in Huntington and Hinesburg.
Flooding earlier in the week also closed roads in Windsor County and led to the evacuation of a housing complex in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
Emergency officials are reminding motorists to avoid driving across water-covered roadways.
