Hunters hoping to bag a Vermont moose this fall need to apply for a shot at the annual lottery by July 5.
The state Department of Fish & Wildlife is urging hunters to apply online by clicking on lottery applications in the hunting and trapping section of its website.
Wildlife Director Mark Scott says printed moose applications are available at license agents, but the department is encouraging people to use the website. He says that's more efficient for the department and the public alike.
Lottery permit applications are $10 for residents and $25 for nonresidents. Winners of the permit lottery must purchase a resident moose hunting permit for $100, or a nonresident moose hunting permit for $350.
