A family of five has been left homeless following a house fire in southern Vermont.
The Shaftsbury Fire Department was called shortly after 7 p.m. by a homeowner who reported smoke coming from an attached apartment. Firefighters extinguished the blaze in the apartment's bedroom and attic and contained the fire to the apartment. Nobody was hurt.
The American Red Cross says the fire displaced a family with three children, ranging from 5 to 15.
The Red Cross says it's arranged for the family to stay in a hotel for a few nights and is providing financial help to replace food and clothing lost in the fire.
Fire Investigators from the state police and Division of Fire Safety couldn't determine the cause of the fire, but said it isn't considered suspicious.
