Vermont State Police have issued a citation for trespassing to a New Hampshire man after rescue crews pulled him from the Saxtons River.
Westminster Fire Chief Cole Streeter says 20-year-old Michael Hoague of Claremont, N.H., had been swimming in the river when he became stranded between the Twin Falls on Tuesday afternoon. Neighbors heard a call for help.
The Eagle-Times reports rescuers used an intricate roping system and a life ring.
Troopers say Hoague walked past a clear sign indicating there was no trespassing or swimming at the site. As a result, he was issued a citation to appear in superior court in Windham at a later date to answer the charge.
Authorities say at least 22 people have been killed at the site since the 1940s.
