Group Seeks To Help Young Women Succeed

A group of more than two dozen Vermont women is going to be getting together over the next six months to look for ways to help young women in the state overcome obstacles to success.

As part of that process, the group Vermont Works for Women is planning to release a report Tuesday written after interviewing more than 210 young women and girls from across Vermont.

Among the conclusions were a lack of personal financial skills, fears about living independently and few role models for a range of career choices.

The task force will seek recommendations for strategic investments in programming or changes in policy or priorities.

The goal is to have the group release its conclusions in December, in time for the 2014 session of the Vermont Legislature.
