Last week, Scholastic- the international children's book publisher- gave awards to 12 students from around the country recognizing their improvement in reading. Yvette Uwiragiye was one of them. The senior at Burlington High School came to Vermont as a refugee from Rwanda four years ago. She will receive $1,200 in prize money from Scholastic, and her school will receive $1,000 to purchase books. We asked Yvette to sit down with her reading teacher Lynne Hefferon and tell us a little about the importance of reading.
