Illuminating Creativity: A Community Lumen Workshop with Artist Caroline Loftus
This hands-on workshop at the Bryan Art Gallery in Jeffersonville introduces participants in all age groups to the art of making lumens. Lumens are a captivating form of photography using sunlight and natural materials, such as leaves, feathers, or flowers, to create one-of-a-kind prints. With lumens, what is normally controlled through aperture, exposure, and chemistry is unpredictable using the natural sun, thus creating a print that will come out differently, depending on the sunlight. Caroline will guide participants through the science and history behind lumen prints, and guide participants in creating their own lumen print to take home.
This workshop is free and open to the community, as long as supplies last.
Participants will be working outdoors for the duration of the workshop, and should be prepared to be outside in the sunlight while they work. There is no registration required.
