Col. Greg Knight will be the new Adjutant General for the Vermont National Guard. He takes over the position on Friday, March 8.
Knight takes the helm of the reserve militia as it faces 400 empty positions and in the wake of a months-long VTDigger investigation alleging sexual harassment and other misconduct within the Guard.
Knight, a longtime Huntington resident, brings to the job more than 30 years of military service across the Vermont Army National Guard, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Vermont Air National Guard.
He beat out three other candidates and was elected to the post by state lawmakers in February.
At his election, Knight pledged to work toward "fixing" the culture at the Guard, to increase recruitment and retention and to review the policies and procedures within the organization.
Col. Knight joins Vermont Edition to discuss the challenges facing the Guard and how he plans to address them.
