Food, traditions and fond memories. These three wonderful things come together when you create a cookbook of family recipes. Even better, the cookbook can be used as a gift that celebrates who a family is and keeps the family's flavor alive.
In this VPR Cafe podcast, food journalist, Melissa Pasanen explains how to collect long-loved family recipes and get the whole family involved in the process. To gather these tips, she spoke with another food writer, Ellen Ecker Ogden, who recently conducted a workshop on the topic. Some of Ogden's suggestions for making a family cookbook:
- Get everyone involved including the kids to create the artwork
- Make it easy to contribute (mail a prepared form to family members or send it via e-mail)
- Include a "thank you" page with the names of all who submitted a recipe
