How do you create a diverse student body in a state like Vermont? For some schools, it's by recruiting students from out-of-state. We're looking at ways Vermont colleges and universities recruit for diversity and how they support students who make the move to Vermont.
Rick Dalton, president and CEO of the nonprofit CFES Brilliant Pathways, joins Vermont Edition to talk about the relationships he's orchestrated between Vermont schools and underserved communities across the country to bring a diverse group of students to the Green Mountain State.
Jaydeen Santos, student services advisor at UVM's Mosaic Center for Students of Color, will discuss her work supporting students coming to Vermont. And she'll share her experience of coming to Vermont in 2001 as one of the first students in a partnership between Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx and UVM that's now brought more than 400 students to the university.
And we'll check in with Dave Amsden, a coordinator for academic services at the Community College of Vermont’s Winooski campus, the hear how the Vermont State College System achieves diversity across four schools and a student body of roughly 13,000.
