A Celebration Of Howard Frank Mosher

In his fictional Kingdom County, Vermont author Howard Frank Mosher brought to life the culture and landscape of the Northeast Kingdom. Beloved by Vermonters and beyond, Mosher's work stands as a testament to the power of storytelling.

Mosher died at the age of 74 at his home in Irasburg. His passing comes after Mosher announced earlier this month on his Facebook page that he had entered hospice care following the diagnosis of an aggressive form of cancer.

An outpouring of support soon followed from those whose lives have been touched by both Mosher personally and through his writing.

On this Vermont Edition, we continue that celebration of Mosher's work and life, and hear about the lasting impressions left by a renowned Vermont author on members of this region.

We're joined by filmmaker Jay Craven, who adapted multiple works by Mosher into movies, and by author Jeffrey Lent.

You can also revisit some of VPR's interviews with Mosher from over the years below:

And two of Craven's films based on Mosher's novels will be screened later this week at the Stowe Town Hall Theatre:

  • Where The Rivers Flow North on Friday, Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
  • A Stranger In The Kingdom on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m.

Also on the program, VPR News Director John Dillon joins us to get us up to speed on what President Trump's latest executive orders mean for Vermont and what the reaction has been like over the past couple of days.

Broadcast on Monday, Jan. 30, 2017 live at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
