Act 46 school district consolidation could change Vermont's educational landscape forever.

Act 46 is a Vermont law that requires towns to consider school district consolidation. Some are doing it willingly. They say their students are going to have more educational options with a consolidated district. They also hope to save money through efficiencies that will be created.

But other towns worry that district consolidation will effectively disenfranchise their communities and limit their path to a good education. Parents in these towns have expressed their concerns.

We get a snapshot of where things stand with consolidation under Act 46 by talking with representatives from Essex Westford, Washington Central, and Northshire School Districts. And David Kelley explains why he thinks Act 46 is the wrong path to achieve better educational goals in the state.
