The 1970s were a time of huge change in Vermont, as the back-to-the land movement swept the country and communes dotted the state. We’re hearing stories from that era of transformation and looking at how 1970s counterculture shaped the state we know today.
We’re joined by Jackie Calder and Amanda Gustin of the Vermont Historical Society to talk about their research project: Freaks, Radicals and Hippies: Counterculture in 1970s Vermont.
Also joining us is Kate Daloz, author of “We Are As Gods: Back to the Land in the 1970s on the Quest for a New America.”
Broadcast live on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
