This week on "Awesome Etiquette," we talk about staying in contact with an ex and their family after a break-up and how to do so in a respectful way.

After a break-up, it's often tough to navigate the potentially rough waters in between you and your ex. And if you were once close with your ex's family, that can add another layer of doubt about how or if you should stay in contact.

Some instances, like the necessity to retrieve items left in a shared home, might dictate a need to contact them.

Older generations often believe the end of a relationship means a clean break with no further contact. But the younger generations may not want to completely cut off ties between each other or their ex's family after a split.

Should you stay in contact with an ex after a break-up and if so, can you do so in a manner that is respectful to your ex and their family?
