Art Hounds: Plays, Poets And Art From The WPA

Bennington native Sally Gil exhibits her large-scale collage works as part of 'Out Of This World' at Bennington Museum through July 10.

This week, see the adaptation of a 2000-year-old play in Middlebury, 26 poets celebrate national poetry month at a Burlington library, four high school students take the stage to sing in Montpelier and 70 Roosevelt-era Vermont artists show up on film.

Thursday, April 28 through May 7, various show times at Town Hall Theater in Middlebury: Middlebury Community Players present, "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum" recommended by Kevin Cummings.

Friday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m., Chandler Center For The Arts in Randolph, Poetry Plus poetry reading and music event with Danny Dover from Bethel as suggested by Linda Young, a musician and singer from Montpelier.

Saturday, April 30 from 2 to 4 p.m., main reading room of Fletcher Free Library in Burlington: 26 Burlington Poets Celebrate Poetry Month as suggested by poet Florence McCloud from South Burlington.

Saturday, April 30 at 9:30 p.m., Sweet Melissa's on Langdon Street in Montpelier: Peace In The Valley, a band of four students from Harwood Union High School, recommended by Lisa Burr, arts patron of Northfield.

Sunday, May 1 at 4 p.m. at Mount Holly School: Vermont premiere of the documentary film, Enough To Live On: the Art Of The W.P.A., featuring music, art, and acting from Roosevelt's era of the New Deal and The Great Depression, suggested by Susan Presson from Belmont.

Through July 10 at Bennington Museum, Bennington: Out Of This World, large-scale collage by Bennington native Sally Gil as suggested by Sherrill Musty of Burlington.
