Get out your slide rule as we celebrate Pi Day looking at practicle applications of math.

A Pi Day this big only comes around once every 100 years. So we are not going to miss the opportunity to celebrate it in grand style.

We get a Pi primer, discuss how chaos theory can be applied to weather and climate prediction, and hear about using differential equations to understand the spread of Buruli ulcers. And you even get a chance to play with polygons and solve some unproven problems!

University of Vermont Professor of Mathematics and Statistics Chris Danforth, Norwich University junior Scott LeFevre and Williams College Professor of Mathematics Satyan Devadoss will talk about the application of numbers.

Also on the program, butane hash oil (BHO) is increasingly popular. It is a very high concentration THC resin made from marijuana using butane. Last week, part of Winooski was shut down as police investigated a lab producing it. We talk with Vermont State Police Lieutenant Reg Trayah about what BHO is and why manufacturing it can be dangerous.

Broadcast live on Mon., March 14, 2016, at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
