Vegan corn chowder, made by Trevor Sullivan at Pingala Cafe, was one of several soups food writer Candace Page learned how to make on her local soup tour.

Soup can seem like a basic dish, until you tuck into a beautiful, complex bowl of soup that warms you to the core.

This conversation originally aired Feb. 22, 2015. Who doesn't love a second helping of a wonderful soup?

Candace Page, a contributor to the Savavore Section the Burlington Free Press, went on a mission to learn how to make a great soup from some local masters. She choose three different Chittenden County restaurants to try to get a taste of different kinds of soup making, including Pauline's CaféPingala Café and Asiana Noodle Shop.

The VPR Café is made possible by Otter Creek Kitchenware in downtown Middlebury, offering over 70 lines of kitchenware.

Originally broadcast on Feb. 22, 2015.

Franny was VPR's Director of Programming & Production.
Ric was a producer for Vermont Edition and host of the VPR Cafe.
