How The Senate Handled The McAllister Question

Sen. McAllister speaks with reporters outside the Vermont Statehouse after his suspension. McAllister was defiant before and after the vote, saying he's done nothing wrong.

Franklin County Senator Norm McAllister was arrested at the Statehouse in May on several charges, including sexual assault, and on Wednesday the Vermont Senate voted to suspend him until his criminal trial is resolved.  But the vote was far from unanimous, with 10 of 30 senators voting against the resolution to suspend him.

Our guests are Sen. Philip Baruth and Sen. Peg Flory, who were active in Wednesday's floor debate, to examine the action the Senate took , the impact on Franklin County constituents, and the idea that defendants are innocence until proven guilty.

Also in the program, Burlington Police Deputy Chief Bruce Bovat joins us.  Police are working with Secret Service to prepare for presidential candidate Donald Trump's campaign event downtown on Thursday evening. The controversial candidate says his campaign has distributed close to 20,000 tickets to his rally at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts, a venue that seats 1,400 people.

Broadcast live on Thur., Jan. 7, 2016 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
