Vermont's Climate Future

The state's climate may look very different a few decades from now.

It seems like real winter may have finally arrived in Vermont. But what about the long-term forecast? Not the prospects for the weekend, but what the state's climate is going to look like years, decades, or even centuries down the line. We're looking at what a rapidly changing climate is going to mean for our particular neck of the woods.

We're joined by Gillian Galford, an Earth systems scientist at UVM's Gund Institute for Ecological Economics, and lead author of the Vermont Climate Assessment. Also by Curt Stager, a professor at Paul Smith's College's School of Natural Resource Management and Ecology, and author of "Deep Future: The Next 100,000 Years of Life on Earth."

Also on the program, Dorothy's List. VPR’s Amy Noyes takes us to Rutland Town where a group of middle schoolers have been reading this year’s Newbury Medal winner, "The Crossover" by Kwame Alexander - a story of family rivalry told through basketball.

Broadcast live on Monday, January 4, 2016 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.

Jane Lindholm is the host, executive producer and creator of But Why: A Podcast For Curious Kids. In addition to her work on our international kids show, she produces special projects for Vermont Public.
