Hunger Free Vermont is only the latest victim of embezzlement in Vermont.

What do these three things have in common? We're talking about all of them on the next Vermont Edition.

Weather: Brown All Around This December

The warmer than normal temperatures and lack of snow this December have a lot of Vermonters wondering, where is winter? We look at the weather patterns that have led to these conditions, and the impact of the Pacific Ocean phenomenon of El Nino on weather in the Northeast. Our guest is chief forecaster Paul Sisson of the national Weather Service in Burlington.

Embezzlement: Opportunity + Incentive + Rationalization

The recent discovery at Hunger Free Vermont that an employee allegedly embezzled hundreds of thousands of dollars is only the latest of such cases in Vermont. We look at why small businesses with high trust in employees are especially vulnerable to financial fraud. Our guest is Professor Barbara Arel from the University of Vermont, who teaches courses on forensic accounting and fraud detection.

Pot 101: Pharmacology of Marijuana

Technically, the class is called Pharm-372 Medical Cannabis, but it's attracted a nickname based on the goal of the new UVM course offering: the physiological and biological response to cannabis in the body. Our guest is Professor Karen Lounsbury, one of the faculty who is designing the course, which may be the first of its kind in the country.
