Roy Acuff, who recorded a classic version of "Wabash Cannonball" in the 1930s, and who was one of the early stars of American country music.

Welcoming November with Tom Waits and the Wabash Cannonball, and with a wealth of live performances this week in the VPR listening area!

This program will air on Sunday, November 1st from 7 - 10 p.m.

This week's calendar announcements:

Sparky and Rhonda Rucker will be in West Brattleboro on Thursday November 5th for an intimate house concert featuring old-time blues, Appalachian music, slave songs and storytelling starting at 7 p.m. Contact George or Ellie for more information at 802-490-2052 or family@carvill.net

Last Train to Zinkov, featuring David Gusakov and Nate Wallace-Gusakov, will be performing at Brandon Music on Saturday November 7th.

Peter Mulvey will be playing at the Good Times Café in Hinesburg on Tuesday November 3rd at 8:30 p.m.

The Social Band will present "Late and Soon": Songs of the Heedless and the Wise," featuring the premiere of a song cycle by Thomas L. Read on Saturday, November 7th at 7:30pm at the Richmond Free Library and on Sunday, November 8th at 3:00pm at the UU Church in Burlington.

The Molly Tuttle Trio will perform at the     Congragational Church in Richmond on Sunday November 8th at 4pm.

Roy Hurd and Charles “Skip” Smithson will be playing at the Palmer Street Coffeehouse in Plattsburgh on Friday November 6th at 7:30 p.m.

Moors & McCumber will be the featured performers at the Ripton Community Coffee House on Saturday November 7th at 7:30 p.m., preceded by the famous open mic.

The Waxwing Four, a VT vocal quartet, will be performing on Friday November 6 at 7:30p.m. at The Old Firehouse in Tinmouth and on Saturday, November 7th at 7:30 pm at the Four Corners Schoolhouse in E. Montpelier.

Hawaiian ukulele wizard Jake Shimabukuro will perform a solo concert at the  Spaulding Auditorium in Hanover NH on Monday, November 9th at 7 p.m. 

The Bluegrass Gospel Project will perform at the Vergennes Opera House on Saturday November 7th at 7 p.m.

Tony Barrand and Keith Murphy will be performing a benefit concert on Friday, November 6 at 7 p.m. in the Brooks Memorial Library in Brattleboro. The program will feature songs of the Atwood family of West Dover.

Tret Fure, a major voice in the women's music movement, will perform at Bennington’s Meetinghouse Café on Friday, November 6th at 8 p.m.

 

Francesca Blanchard will be performing at the Zen Lounge on lower Church Street in Burlington on Friday November 6th at 8 p.m.
 
Katie Trautz will playing at the INN on Main Street in Montgomery Center on Sunday November 8th at 7 p.m.

Robert Resnik has been the host of All the Traditions, Vermont Public's folk and world music show, since 1996. He is the winner of the 2019 Herb Lockwood Prize In the Arts, an honor that rewards the pinnacle of arts leadership in Vermont and is the recipient of the 2022 Margaret L Kannenstine Award for Arts Advocacy from the Vermont Council of the Arts.
