Federal Elections, Canadian Style

Gregory Bull
A York Regional Police officer attends a Canadian flag in Markham, Ontario, July 2015.

Canadians will vote on Monday, October 19, for a new Parliament after a 78-day campaign season, which counts as among the longest in Canadian federal election history. We learn how else Canadian elections diverge from the U.S. system.

We look at the five biggest parties in the current campaign, and the three parties that are in leading contention to form a government. Our guest is Jeff Ayres, professor of Canadian politics and dean of Saint Michael's College.

Also in the program Vermont Secretary of State Jim Condos reacts to a national report that says most states, including Vermont, have voting machines that are nearing then end of their expected lives.

And we head into the autumn woods to learn how to build a debris shelter.

Broadcast live on Fri., Oct. 2, 2015 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
