From Bamako to Johannesburg via St. Johnsbury

Sets celebrating great musicians of Mali and South Africa, a preview of the Valley Stage Festival in Huntington and the Banjo Dan Bluegrass Review in Derby Line, and much more!

This program will air on Sunday August 2nd from 7 - 10 p.m.

This week's calendar announcements:

On Wednesday August 5th, Katy Trautz and the Green Mtn. Playboys will perform in Middlesex at the Martha Pellerin and Andy Shapiro bandstand at 6:30 p.m.

On Friday August 7th from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. the Deep River Saints will be performing in Waterfront Park in Burlington with special guest Ida Mae Specker.

The 3rd Annual Banjo Dan Bluegrass Review will be held at the Haskell Opera House in Derby Line on Saturday August 8th beginning at 7:30 p.m. and featuring Bob Amos and Catamount Crossing along with Dan and Willy Lindner.  Willy and Dan will also be playing this week in Castleton  at the State College Pavilion on South Street on August 4th at 7 p.m.

Vermont musician Susan Picking will hold a CD release concert and party on Sunday August 9th at 2 p.m. at the Morse Farm on County Road in Montpelier.
 

 Multi-instrumentalist Spiff Weigand will perform at the Meetinghouse Café in Bennington on Friday, August 7th at 8 p.m.

Dana and Susan Robinson will perform in City Hall Park in Burlington on Wednesday August 5th at noon.

Dudley Laufman will lead the dancing at a special Old Home Week edition of the Nelson Saturday Contra Dance in Nelson, NH on Saturday August 8th. Dancing begins at 7:30 p.m.

The Mad Robin Callers Collective will call at a contra dance in Rochester on Friday August 7th beginning at 7 p.m. with music by Joanne Garton and Aaron Marcus.

The Phil Henry Acoustic Trio will perform at the Sherburne Memorial Library on Thursday August 6th at 6  p.m. as part of the River Road Concert Series

The Valley Stage Festival will be held on Saturday August 8th at Blackbird Swale in Huntington with music beginning at 2 p.m.  Featured acts include Possumhaw, the Phil Henry Acoustic Trio, Mike Barnett, and Milk Drive.  Possumhaw will also be playing at a benefit  concert at the Grand Isle Lake House on Sunday Auguts 9th at 6:30 p.m.

Village Harmony will perform at Congregation Ahavas Achim in Keene, NH on Sunday August 9th at 7:30 p.m.

The Dave Keller band is playing 8 times this week at venues all over the VPR listening area.  Please check his website for specific information.

The Mad Mountain Scramblers will play in Westford next Sunday August 9th on the common beginning at 7 p.m.

 

Robert Resnik has been the host of All the Traditions, Vermont Public's folk and world music show, since 1996. He is the winner of the 2019 Herb Lockwood Prize In the Arts, an honor that rewards the pinnacle of arts leadership in Vermont and is the recipient of the 2022 Margaret L Kannenstine Award for Arts Advocacy from the Vermont Council of the Arts.
