Chris Recchia is Vermont's Public Service Commissioner.

Vermont’s Public Service Department has long overseen the state’s energy and telecommunications policy. Not long ago that involved keeping tabs on telephone service and electric rates.

But today, renewable energy development, the closing of Vermont Yankee and the importance of broadband present new challenges to the department.

We talk with Public Service Commissioner Chris Recchia about his department's push for more say in Yankee's decommissioning, legislation establishing new renewable energy standards, the recent service problems with FairPoint and the effort to expand and improve broadband service.

Also on the program, Jim Esden, forester in Vermont's Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation, provides an update on how the cold winter weather has affected the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid population in Vermont, as well as other invasive insects.

Broadcast live on Tues., March 10, 2015, at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
