People want to believe that where they live is the best place on earth. But do Vermonters have more reasons than most to believe that their state is exceptional? On this Town Meeting Day, we listen back to an archive of Vermont Edition that takes aim at the myth and reality of Vermont exceptionalism. When Vermonters boast about their state, are they telling the truth about a great place to live or are they being braggadocious? We get a fact-based view from economist Art Woolf and sociologist Vince Bolduc.
Later in the hour, a personal look at artist Norman Rockwell. He spent prolific years painting in the town of Arlington. His homespun images appeared on the covers of the Saturday Evening Post and are closely associated with the rural character of Vermont. We speak with Deborah Solomon, author of the 2013 biography, American Mirror: The Life and Art of Norman Rockwell.
Broadcast at noon on Tuesday, March 3, 2015.
