VPR Cafe: Farmstands Face The Competition

Glenn Russell
/
Burlington Free Press
Caniel Brigante helps Nancy Weber of Burlington as she shops for vegetables at Dean Brigante's Farm Stand in Colchester.

Farm stands in Vermont range from a family selling zucchini and tomatoes in their driveway to retail stores that also sell Vermont products and baked goods. The common denominator in most cases is that they're family run. Melissa Pasanen, who writes for the Savorvore Section of The Burlington Free Press, explains how farm stands are surviving and thriving in the face of competition. You can learn more about farm stands in Vermont in Melissa's Free Press article.

The VPR Cafe is produced in collaboration with The Burlington Free Press.

Broadcast on Sunday, September 28th at 10:50 a.m.

Franny was VPR's Director of Programming & Production.
Ric was a producer for Vermont Edition and host of the VPR Cafe.
