Conservation biologists at the Vermont Center for Ecostudies in Norwich are giddy over a rare reunion with a tiny songbird.
For 20 years, they've been tracking the Bicknell's Thrush as the species migrates back and forth from its summer nesting habitat atop Mount Mansfield to its winter habitat in the Dominican Republic. Several years ago, during a visit to the Dominican Republic, VCE biologists banded Bicknell's Thrushes and released them. But in a recent unexpected turn, the same group of scientists recently recaptured one of those individual birds on Mt. Mansfield. Our guest is Chris Rimmer, executive director of the Vermont Center for Ecostudies, to provide the details about the Bicknell's Thrush and the story that one bird can tell about habitat conservation.
