VPR Cafe: Vermont Beans

Melissa Pasenen / Free Press
A variety of beens grown at Morningstar Meadows Farm in Glover

Localvores are now more likely to find Vermont grown dried beans at co-ops and grocery stories. Growing and drying beans is a labor intensive involving several steps and specialized machinery.  Melissa Pasanen visited Morningstar Meadow Farm in Glover to find out exactly how it's done. She also tells us the best way to cook beans.

Melissa writes for the Savorvore Section of the Burlington Free Press, where you can read more about Vermont farms that produce dried beans.

The VPR Cafe is produced in collaboration with the Burlington Free Press and is made possible on VPR by the Vermont Community Foundation Food and Farm Initiative.

Franny was VPR's Director of Programming & Production.
Ric was a producer for Vermont Edition and host of the VPR Cafe.
