VPR Cafe: Sisters of Steel

This week on the VPR Cafe, Melissa Pasanen profiles two women from Vermont who hand forge beautiful kitchen knives. While they both live in Brooklyn, New York, have never met, and use very different techniques to produce one of a kind knives. However, they both experience their work as a unique craft in a mass produced world and a personal connection to their customers. Melissa writes for the Burlington Free Press where you can read her story and see a video of how an old metal file becomes a handmade knife.

Broadcast Sunday, Feburary 2, 2014 at 10:45 a.m.

The VPR Cafe is produced in collaboration with The Burlington Free Press and is made possible on VPR by the Vermont Community Foundation Food and Farm Initiative.

Franny was VPR's Director of Programming & Production.
Ric was a producer for Vermont Edition and host of the VPR Cafe.
