In 1976, Jack and Anne Lazor bought a farm and started making yogurt in their own kitchen to sell to their neighbors. Now, Butterworks Farm produces thousands of quarts of yogurt a week and ships several varieties of grain throughout the region. Jack Lazor has also become a much sought after expert on grain production and organic farming. He's credited with providing the foundation for the localvore movement.
Burlington Free Press writer Sally Pollak spent a day on the farm with the Lazors (including the top of their 65 foot grain silo) and shares what she learned. The VPR Cafe is produced in collaboration with the Free Press, where you can read Sally's extensive story on Butterworks Farm and Jack Lazor.
