Leahy Holds Hearings On Surveillance Programs

Thurs 8/1/13 at Noon & 7PM: On Wednesday, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing in which top Obama administration officials were questioned about the National Security Agency's surveillance programs.

Thursday on Vermont Edition, we talk with Sen. Patrick Leahy, chair of the Judiciary Committee, about the differences he sees between a surveillance program that gathers bulk metadata on phone records, and another program that accesses email records. Leahy has introduced legislation that would increase congressional oversight of the programs.

As the state rolls out pricing information on health care plans in the state's exchange, analyst Eric Davis looks at how the success or failure of the exchange will impact the political fortunes of politicians like Governor Peter Shumlin who've championed the program.
