Vermont has a strong running community and there were quite a few Vermonters who were in Boston either running or watching the marathon yesterday. We hear from a few of them.
Ryan Polly ran his 1st marathon as a part of Green Mountain Athletic Association. He was ¾ of a mile from the finish when the race was stopped. Sarah Waterman ran the Boston Marathon in 2011 and was a spectator yesterday about a mile from the finish. Sam Davis ran the 100th Boston Marathon in 1996 and was training partner of Lisa Weidenbach, the last American winner of the Boston Marathon in 1985. Carlie Krolick ran her sixth Boston Marathon yesterday.
The Boston Marathon is an iconic New England tradition, and a moment of triumph for the human spirit of endurance and the joy of the crowd. We explore how yesterday's events might affect the feelings of Vermont's running community.
Ryan Polly is organizing a benefit run this Saturday at 4pm on the Burlington waterfront by Echo Lake Aquarium. The run will benefit the Mass General Hospital Emergency Fund.
