Of course! But Why episodes are always free, whether you’re part of the fan club or not!

But Why is part of Vermont Public, Vermont’s NPR and PBS station. We are funded almost exclusively by our community, through underwriting by local businesses and by support from individuals who like what we do. Your support will help keep But Why going strong for kids all over the world!

I live outside of the United States, can I still join?
The But Why Fan Club is currently only available to folks in the US for now. We hope to open membership to everyone in early 2024. Stay tuned!
When will I receive my welcome kit?
You will receive your welcome kit within 3-6 weeks (or sooner)!
What if there’s more than one child in my family?
Don’t worry! You can select as many additional welcome kits as you like for a $5 additional one-time donation per welcome kit. If you would like double of any of the benefits associated with a membership level, you’ll need to set up two memberships.
What does the welcome kit include?
One But Why Fan Club patch, one But Why fan club bookmark, one But Why sticker and one Vermont Public sticker.
How do I cancel my But Why Fan Club membership?
To cancel your Fan Club membership please email us at membership@vermontpublic.org or call 800-639-2192 and the Vermont Public membership team will assist you!
I love But Why, but what is Vermont Public?
But Why is produced at Vermont Public, Vermont’s NPR and PBS station. All financial transactions and communications will be distributed by Vermont Public on behalf of But Why, including credit card update emails, tax receipts and renewal notices.
Can I purchase items from the But Why merch store even if I’m not a Fan Club member?
Yes! The But Why merch store is open to anyone who would like to purchase an item.
