Logo for JOLTED, a five-part podcast about a school shooting that didn't happen, the line between thought and crime, and a Republican governor in a rural state who changed his mind about gun laws.
Aaron Shrewsbury for VPR

JOLTED is a five-part podcast about what happens when a young man plans a school shooting, but gets caught before he shoots anyone. It’s about the line between thought and crime. And, it’s about a Republican governor, in a rural state, who changed his mind about gun laws.

This thirty-minute submission includes the entirety of Part 1: The Shooting That Didn't Happen and the beginning of Part 2: How We Got Here. These episodes were released for podcast on September 6 and broadcast during All Things Considered on September 6 and 7.  Credits and advertising have been removed.

The remaining episodes, not included in this entry, are titled Part 3: Thought, Or Crime?, Part 4: The Reversal, and Part 5: Threat Assessment.
