This morning at the Statehouse, five young people who grew up in foster care will testify before legislative committees. The youth plan to share the challenges they faced in trying to apply for and attend college while under the custody of the state. Senate President John Campbell is putting together a contingency plan in case a single-payer health care plan isn’t politically viable. Govenror Peter Shumlin wants Vermont to be the first state with a single-payer system, starting in 2017. The Vermont House has rejected a measure to provide public funding for students in independent schools to participate in a dual enrollment program that allows high school students to enroll in some college courses.
