Treatment for opiate addiction has increased more than 700 percent in Vermont since 2000. And as Governor Shumlin recently noted in his State of the State address, too many people are having to wait too long to find help, especially in the Northeast Kingdom. One of the providers that dispenses opiate treatment medication for people addicted to prescription drugs and other substances is BAART, a for-profit business that started in California. President Barack Obama focused on income inequality in his State of the Union address, and Vermont’s congressional delegation says they agree with the focus on rebuilding the middle class. A half dozen Vermont communities are getting grants to install a total of 13 charging stations for electric vehicles.
