We are thrilled to welcome James Stewart to VPR Classical as our new local afternoon host. Get to know him in our latest ProFile, and listen to his program weekday afternoons from 4-7.
My name...is James Stewart.
VPR employee since...January 2015.
Public radio listener since...I was an undergrad. It was a great way to learn the repertoire that I was required to know for my degree.
I spend my days at VPR...planning my on-air shift, recording breaks and segments, and dreaming up new ways to engage the audience in music.
The recording I'd want with me if I were stranded on a desert island is...Mozart's Requiem performed by the Vienna Boys Choir in 1990. It is the most haunting recording of any piece I've ever heard.
In addition to classical music, I love listening to....classic rock, especially from the '60s and '70s. The experimentation that was taking place with recording excites me.
I've learned the most about radio from...my father. He has been in radio for over 30 years.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be...a famous composer when I grew up.
On a Saturday morning, you'll find me...playing with my two children, Jeremiah (10) and Isaac (4).
If I could share a coffee with anyone, it would be...John Cage. Just imagine what kind of conversation that would be.
I can't live without...coffee, a piano and staff paper.
