We're pleased to announce that following a national search, Morning Host and Producer Kari Anderson has been selected as VPR Classical's first Managing Producer.
Kari has been VPR Classical’s morning host since 2012. In her new role, she’ll lead the classical staff and work with them to unify vision, content, and community engagement. In a region that boasts a rich and eclectic music scene, we're looking forward to making VPR Classical an even more integral part of the community.
In addition to increasing locally-hosted classical music programming in the coming months, Kari said sh plans to enhance connections with the VPR Classical audience and the local community. She also wants to make classical music more accessible to new and existing listeners.
“Classical music somehow has come to sit on this pedestal over the years, and yet we listen to it in the car, making breakfast, working, going to bed - hardly moments where we have a tuxedo on,” she said. “VPR Classical aims to reflect the joy that people take in having classical music in their lives, be it concert-going, performing, or listening to the radio. That happens by being more porous, more fluid, more responsive, and more engaged with the community that we serve. We can all expect VPR Classical to be a little less buttoned up and more joyous in the weeks, months, and years ahead.”
Kari has a Master of Music degree from McGill University in Oboe Performance and Orchestral Studies, and is an alum of the Vermont Youth Orchestra. During her time at VPR, she has also managed a major project to digitize a classical music library of more than 5,000 pieces, launched VPR Classical’s social media presence, and has pioneered voice-tracking, a key initiative that will allow for more locally-hosted programming
Please join us in congratulating Kari!
